Venture rewards card

Just recently Capital One and Hotels.com joined forces to introduce 10x Miles at Hotels.com.  The 10x seems pretty nice, but with the addition of Hotels.com rewards, you can even get a total of 20% back on hotels.

There are 2 cards available in the Venture card series: Venture Rewards and VentureOne.

What is Hotels.com?

Hotels.com is a popular website used to book hotel rooms online.   The site’s inventory includes over 325,000 hotels in 19,000 locations.  The inventory includes hotels, bed and breakfast, and other types of lodging options.

One important aspect of using Hotels.com is that you will not earn loyalty points from a specific hotel chain like Marriott and Hilton.

The 10x Miles at Hotels.com

The 10x miles applies to purchases at Hotels.com/Venture.  This is a special URL for Venture cardholders and applies only if you use the Venture Rewards and Venture One.    The 10x miles means that  you get 10% back in value.  Keep in mind that the bonus is the card miles bonus.

The 10x bonus is available through January 2020.  However, it remains to be seen that the bonus will continue after this date.

Additional 10% Back on Hotels.com

If earning 10x Miles on Hotels.com isn’t enough, you can also stack the rewards with the 10th night free stay.  The free night is worth the average of the 10 nights, essentially giving 10% back.

When you combine the 10th night stay and the 10x Venture rewards, the return on spend through Hotels.com/Venture is a 20% back.  No other hotel reward comes close to this return.

Who’s It For and Not For?

The VentureOne and Venture Rewards card may not be for everyone.  Due to the recent partnership with Hotels.com, you would want to maximize the bonus points and rewards.

For the frequent traveler who uses one or few hotel loyalty programs, it may not make sense to get this card for the Hotels.com benefit.  As mentioned, you do not get loyalty points for using Hotels.com.  Your goal maybe to obtain lifetime status or a special status for the year and using this site might hamper your progress.

For the others who don’t need to achieve lifetime status or meet yearly hotel loyalty goals,  you may find this card very rewarding.  There are no hotel loyalty programs that provide a 20% return.  This might be especially profitable for a person who might use his or her credit card to plan hotel events.

Summary

The VentureOne and Venture cards can provide ample rewards with the combination of Hotels.com.   If you’re set on getting maximized returns on hotels, the cards might be a great option.  You might find yourself with possibly one of the best travel cards for your needs.
